Library Card Sign-Up Month kicks off a packed September

September is Library Card Sign-Up Month, and we are celebrating all month long with a full lineup of programs and events for the community!
A library card opens the door to books, digital resources, and more, making this the perfect time to sign up, renew your card, or see what the Library has to offer. Along with the month-long celebration, patrons can look forward to a variety of activities throughout the month.
Youth Activities
Storytime | Auditorium (First Floor)
For babies to preschoolers: listen to stories read aloud, sing songs, and enjoy playtime, sensory play, and crafts.
Special Storytime: Deaf Awareness Month | Saturday, Sept. 5 at 10:30 a.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
For children of all ages: learn about Deaf Awareness Month through American Sign Language stories with Liz Crook.
Special Storytime: Constitution Week | Friday, Sept. 18 at 10:30 a.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
For children of all ages: learn about our country’s constitution and Constitution Week, through story and activities with the Mary Tyler Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution.
Special Storytime: Toddler Games | Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
Join us for an indoor obstacle course, play, and gold medals! Toddlers and their families are invited to participate in a variety of fun gross-motor movement activities in our very first Toddler Games event. This is a come-and-go event.
Dungeons and Dragons Club | First and Third Tuesday at 5 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
For ages 12-18: tweens and teens can join the quest by signing up online.
Open Makerspace | Thursday, Sept. 10 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
For kids of all ages | stop by to make crafts, create art, and play games.
Lego Block Party | Saturday, Sept. 19 from noon to 2 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
For kids ages 7 to 18: Join us for free play!
Homeschool Libratory | Friday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
For kids ages 5 to 12: Join us to learn about money, math, and play a fun game.
Scavenger Hunt | All September | Children’s Area (First Floor)
Find all the hidden fairy tale items in the children’s department. Show your finished scavenger hunt page to the library staff at the front desk to receive a reward sticker.
Craft Cart Activity | All September | Craft Cart (First Floor)
Each month, our Craft Cart features a STEAM-oriented activity for kids to do at the library. September will feature a paper weaving craft.
Adult Activities
Horror Book Club | Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 5:30 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
September’s discussion will be on A House with Good Bones by T. Kingfisher. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 8, as the Library will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 7.
Campfire Book Club | Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. | Tyler State Park, 789 Park Road 16
For Adults: Sit around a fire in the piney woods of Tyler State Park and discuss “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer.
Wildflower Poetry Society | Thursday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
Share and connect with fellow poets at this monthly gathering.
Paint Night | Thursday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
Join us as we learn about the self-portraits of Raphael and try our hand at making our own interpretation of his work. Whether you're a hobbyist, a regular, a professional, or if you've never picked up a brush in your life, we'd love to see you and enjoy your company as we paint. Registration is required.
Try It Tuesdays | Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 5:30 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
Adults can try out new skills and hobbies! On Tuesday, Sept. 22, Marie Gutierrez with the Tyler Belly Dancing Company will show us the basics of belly dancing. Patrons are recommended to dress for a workout.
Celebrate Libraries with Stringfellows | Monday, Sept. 28 at 5:30 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)
Come celebrate Library Card Sign-Up Month with folk duo, Stringfellows! With TJ Hassel on guitar and Stuart on banjo, the duo will regale us with folk music from Appalachia and the Ozarks. TJ will also talk about being an author and the impact libraries have had on her and her husband.
Club Read | Last Tuesday each month at 10:30 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
September’s discussion will be on The Wife, the Maid, and the Mistress by Ariel Lawhon.
Open Door Writing Group | Wednesdays at 1 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
Are you a writer? The best way to hone your craft is to work with fellow scribes, and the best place to do that is at your local library. Join our Open Door Writing Group as they share their work, discuss the writing process, and offer advice.
Stitch Craft Society | Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
Come with your needlework supplies and stitch while meeting fellow Library enthusiasts! Please note that the Library cannot store supplies or projects from this program. Patrons will have to bring and take home their supplies.
Adult D&D Club | First and Third Saturdays each month at 2 p.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
Adults are invited to play Dungeons & Dragons in a “West March”- style campaign. Registration is required.
East Texas Genealogical Society | Second Saturday at 2 p.m. | Auditorium (First Floor)

Chapter and Choices| Last Saturday of each month at 11 a.m. | Makerspace (Third Floor)
